The statement beauty is pain reigns true; being pretty hurts. How can something so beautiful bring so much pain? The standards of beauty don't actually exist. The ideal of what is beautiful is something that can only be attained at build a bear. So many women, including myself, deal with the brunt of it. I myself don't fit into the mold of what is considered to be pretty. I don't look like a model or the girls on instagram. You know the girls with the light skin, light eyes, big booty, no waist, no stretch marks, flat stomach, perfect teeth and so much more. Seeing this imagery over and over again will make you second guess and question if you're pretty. It seems that no matter how I try to fix my hair or makeup my good still isn't good enough. It's “you're too dark, you're too small, you're too this and you're too that”. Now I see why Beyonce says ‘pretty hurts”. I stand there in the mirror looking at myself analyzing piece by piece of my body. From my far placed brown eyes to my larger lips, darker skin complexion and crooked smile and even my stretch marks symmetrically placed on my body. As I sat there trying to determine what is beautiful about me I had a thought.i cant be pretty and or beautiful at all times. Trying to fix everything but some things can't be fixed. So that leaves the soul and inner me. Those aspects of me are attractive; that's something that no doctor or medication can change about me. So whether I have makeup, wigs or any other type of physical aid the same reflection stares back at me. Sometimes letting the masquerade so the real me is shown so individuals can see my beauty. It's scary though, when I don't have those other physical attributes to help me out. Even though pretty hurts, I can turn that pain into power.
I watched growing up with five sisters the way this would effect them. I was a kid with big ears and it still bothers me a little, buti think its harder for girls in our society. television and movies drive the points home ad nausium. I think your writing is awesome and a previous comment spoke about the better you are at something the more critics you will have. As my dad would say, "keep your chin up, and your shoulders back"

Having been at a Major UK University back in the day, I met many beautiful women - but what I value most in both women and men is kindness and empathy - because often the really beautiful / handsome people are actually selfish and cruel with it.
Nelli Kong. Somethings are beautiful. The sea, the free forest and the faces of another. I believe beauty is skin-deep. We must like the person, we see in the mirror. I never cared about appearance but we must ensure we are becoming the person, we want to be. We create the image, the world can see. I believe, we must accept the person, we are. Each of us, a different flower reaching for the sun. Powerful and worthwhile poetry. You made think tonight. Beauty is a two-sided coin. Allow you to conquer the world with your mind and the naysayers will never see you coming.

thank you I appreciate the feedback and thoughtful comment.
The better you are at something, Nelli. The more people will criticize you for it. Especially if you are really good at it - whatever it may be. Whether it's beauty, physique, ability, or otherwise. Someone somewhere will criticize you for your excellence.
Your poem is well-written with good meaning. Nicely done. Rating: 100/100.
