Frozen

Frozen

A Story by Mika Haruna

A few years ago, there was a small village located somewhere in the artic. the houses were made of wooden poles, with the dried skins of animals stretched around them. snow storms happened frequienly in the small village, and the villagers werent always prepared for them.

One cold day, the clouds looked dark and forboding in the daytime sky. A young girl, named Sen went immediatly to tell the village leaders of this new development. Sen and the other children were then sent into the forest to gather as much wood as they could find, so that the people may build fires in their house to keep warm.

Sen had a best friend named Nelly. Nelly was small for her age, and was sickly. Her pale blonde hair a parlor skin made her look like she belonged in the snow. her eyes were the color of ice. nelly had been feeling remarkably well that day, and had gone outside to gather firewood. Nelly lived on her own, and could not hunt, so when storms like this came she had no one to rely on.

Sen loved Nelly like a sister, and always wanted to help her out as much as she could. Nelly however, despised help from anyone. It made her feel weak. That day, Sen had asked Nelly if she had enough firewood to get through the night, and Nelly had lied.

"Yes, i have more than enough. Thank you for asking." Sen smiled that way that only Sen could. A bright smile, showing all of her teeth. "see you tomarrow, then." Sen bid Nelly goodnight and returned to her house.

Sen awoke to a harsh tap-tap-tap on her roof. hail, she thought with a rueful smile. She pulled a warm blanket around her frem and looked out her door. She gasped, it was snowing and hailing harder than she had ever saw in her entire life.

She noticed only a small amount of smoke coming from Nelly's chimney, compared to the other houses. Sen hoped she would be warm over night.

The next morning, Sen couldn't find Nelly. She wasn't in her home, or around the outside. Sen feared for her small friend. The whole village turned out looking for her, but when the sun started going down, they gave up. Sen walked into Nelly's house, hoping that Nelly had left some sort of sign of where she had dissapeared to.

Terror gripped Sen. The room was so cold, her breathe turned to clouds as it escaped her mouth. A fire was blazing in the fireplace, but it seemed to not be giving off any heat. The thing that scared Sen the most though, was Nelly. The small girl stood in front of the fire, her entire frame was tinted blue, like her entire body was frostbitten. Her eyes had sunken deep within her skull, and her lips were drawn back from her teeth. They were black and cracked.

Nelly made a sobbing sound that made Sen's throat tighten. "I'm so cold, and i just can't get warm. I'm so cold so cold." Nelly spoke as if her throat was raw. Sen Screamed. She tried to run from the terrible thing that was her best friend, but she couldn't make it to the door before the coldness gripped her. She stopped in her tracks and shivered violently. then she heard Nelly's voice.

"You always want to help me. I'm so lonely. Stay here with me, forever."

Sen couldn't scream, she couldn't move. then the darkness and the cold gripped her.
