A disease often forgotten: recognizing heath disparities in TB

A disease often forgotten: recognizing heath disparities in TB

A Poem by Myrtice J. Edwards
"

World Tb Day

"

March 24 of every year is the chosen date to build public awareness

On this day we recognize an epidemic that causes death and unfairness

TB kills about 1.6 million people each year, mostly in the 3rd world

But on this day the disparities and burdens that exist will be unfurled

How can something that can be cured still be considered an epidemic?

Are the resources available that so scarce like poison that’s systemic?

Dr. Robert Koch discovered the cause of TB-The TB bacillus

Without that medical breakthrough and treatment it will Kill us

I hope that once this world recognition event has ended you will see

The people who are affected by it have moments of extraordinary poignancy

There are some people we cannot protect from TB because it’s out of our control

We are on the right path with the new test such as T-Spot and Quantiferon-Gold

TB may be a disease that is often forgotten and now we recognize the disparities

Let’s work together to address these issues that continue to affect the communities
