"On That Day"

Where were you on that day 13 years ago
Do you remember?
I was sitting at home
Just another cold day in September

It was a typical day of the week for me
As i was getting my kids ready for school
Never have I thought about
How the day was going to be cruel

I turned on the television
After my kids got on the bus
And I was wondering out loud
Why the news was making such a fuss

I watched what was happening in my home state
The state where Lady Liberty calls home
And a feeling of anguish swept over me
And suddenly I felt so alone

My heart was weeping as I watched
What unfolded on that somber day
My soul felt like it was ripped from me
I hope it wouldn't be led astray

Never have I heard Lady Liberty cry
Over the pain she felt in her heart
Looking out among the towers
As her people were falling apart

With just seconds to decide on what to do
She couldn't speak, she couldn't move
She was stunned in silence and frozen in place
What she saw before her a complete disgrace

She felt she failed the ones she swore to protect
As she saw the towers start tumbling down
Her people silently saying their last goodbyes
She knew she would have a permanent frown

Even with all the showers of flames
And all the smoke like billowy clouds
There could be seen a glimmer of hope
As she fought to be unbowed

There was a lot of destruction
And certainly a lot of dismay
But in the aftermath of it all
Humanity would not be led astray

We will never forget what happened
Never again will we be divided
This day will live in infamy forever
We will never again be blindsided
