"You are the summertime of my womb, the sunshine in my life"
There is summertime in your hair when the sunshine plays
between each strand, letting them slip between her fingers like waterfalls at
dusk; when your laughter fills the summer air like the warm fragrance of lilacs
and chamomile at twilight’s passage; when your smile fills my heart with the
light of dawn upon its wake and the joy of life within its embrace; when you
frolic about like a beautiful butterfly chasing the gaiety of life’s euphoria
through your precious little eyes, brimming with laughter and joy, mischief and
wonder, capering in the dewy grass of morning and with the fireflies at
night. You are the summertime of my
womb, the sunshine in my life.
This is absolutely stunning. I love your use of nature and the seasons to portray your love for your daughter. This poem uses beautiful imagery to tale a magnificent tale of the incredible bond between mother and daughter. I love it, it's breathtaking! Great work, I'm sure your daughter was very touched by it.

This is a beautiful, triumphant, wondrous and wild dedication to your daughter! Made me smile to sense the warmth and joy that summer bring, and that she brings you endlessly... :)

I'm glad we get to immortalize our children at a defined age with each poem we write about them. I've made it my habit to write a poem on the first day my daughter goes back to school so that each year she starts the year with something dedicated to her. But as the years pass, I wonder whether she'll continue to appreciate this. Even if she doesn't, I do it more for her for when she's an adult, and for me now as an adult. Does that make sense? [Sometimes I don't make sense... hehe]

Motherly love that is exhibited through birth and rebirth of the summer season where the sun of her daughter always shines through her dark days ...A splendid write...:)

Thank you, Sami! She does shine through on those dark days! Thank you for reading and commenting!
'You are the summertime of my womb, the sunshine in my life.' This is a beautiful tribute to your daughter. Your love shines through, especially in those last lines. The details in which you describe her and everthing else that surrounds her are written as only a mother could do. I loved this one.

Indeed I love my children very much, and my daughter is so special to me because she is so like me when I was that age, and I did not realize how frustrating that must have been for my mother (haha!). But I do love her and she makes me so happy! Thank you for reading and commenting!
Such an eloquent opening, deriving so many pleasures! I can relate to this with a memory of a child now grown, or to a loved one, now departed. Isn't that the beauty of poetry? The way in which it is interpreted from the poet's hand?
My best,
Kelly

Oh, Karen, this is so lovely. Your words for your daughter hold the same sentiment as my words for my granddaughter....the funny thing is we both wrote them in 2011. We were meant to meet here at Writer's Care! Heartwarming maternal love in every line and beautiful imagery. I especially liked this simile "like a beautiful butterfly chasing the gaiety of life’s euphoria." Heavy sigh......so lovely! Lydi**

I do believe we were meant to meet here because your words echo my own and express what I would like to express in writing! Thank you for your comment on this piece. It is special to me because it is about my daughter, and she means so much to me. As she grows up, I know changes will come but I hope I can continue to write about her enchantment with life and nature.
I am a teacher by calling, a writer by nature, a mother by grace, and a wife by choice. I love all my roles, though am better at some than at others. I write because I love it and because I need it .. more..
