Time After Time; Meal After Meal

Time After Time; Meal After Meal

A Poem by Nicole Ebert

Meal after meal
Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner
Mother carrying the pots of food to the table
The four of them settling down
Sharing tales of their days back and forth
Older brother and father discussing the recent football game
Mother and daughter laughing about something silly that occurred in the morning
Sometimes there’s silence
Comfortable quietness as the delicious food is eaten to the last crumb
A distinct happiness is linked between the family
But these meals soon decrease
Lives turn hectic
Kids blossom into young adults
Time dwindles
It used to be every night
Not anymore
But when there does come a time
When they’re all finally together
No one is too busy
They sit down at the same table
Share stories
Eat delicious food
And it’s like nothing has changed
