Excitement
budding like a flower in my stomach
Leaving my towel behind
I stroll carefully to where the sea water begins
My best friend by my side
Holding my hand
My toes were once digging in the damp sand
Now they’re soaked by the freezing water
Courage swells inside of me
And I let myself dive in
Nine
people were killed, including eight children, in a western Kentucky house fire
early Thursday morning.
Looming
trees cast shadows on the forest floor
Creatures scurry
Different plants flourish
A person strolls through
Alone and adolescent with naturalistic experience
She settles next to a bed of a miscellaneous yet beauteous flowers
Sensations of tranquility trickle through her
From the calming affect that nature gifts her
She pulls out her favorite book
While a smile that is despondently overdue threads across her cheeks
My once
dry skin is now soaked
The water rises all the way up to my arms
Below me, my feet kick to keep me afloat
I laugh as my friend splashes freely
Salt stings my tongue when I’m unexpectedly embraced by a smooth wave
Time passes by without a thought
As the beautiful sea becomes a part of me
This is
Kentucky's third fire in a little more than a year that has killed five or more
people. Last January, four children under six and their father were killed in a
blaze near Pikeville in eastern Kentucky that also severely burned their mother.
Everyone has been devastated by this tragedy.
Pain and
sorrow has been the foundation of her lifestyle
All she wanted was an escape
Then she discovered the cluster of evergreen near her home
She went there with a heavy heart
And then returned with a brighter soul
Nature had given her a place away from her shattered life
It became her real home
Her real comfort
