Women becoming wonky

Women becoming wonky

A Poem by Naysan arif

We are told from birth

Our life has no mirth

We are made to live for others

And are devoid of feathers

We are made to live in a hole

Because family fear boys may steal our soul

We are told to be simple

Talk softly and be humble

Even when we speak for right

Our demands seem to them a fight

We have always been the sufferers

From ancient history to present hustlers

Every custom is an obligation on us

Rape, acid attack, dowry, is becoming a part of us

People have killed us even when our husbands died

                      Because of sati, fie!!

When our in-laws demand cars, frig and money

Our struggle has always been lonely

When we experienced domestic violence

We had rights but freelance

We are told from birth

Our life has no mirth

Slightly better structure to this one Naysan, as always, there's that language barrier to push through, I really hope you can find someone or practice and study hard yourself to bring your words to life for western eyes. The beautiful meaning and symbolism is trapped behind translation, which is a terrible shame.

I wish you all the best!

Its always interesting to read the plight of Indian women. Customs are what associate us with others ... but that can be a two edged sword.
