Come SpringA Poem by Natasha Austin
Somewhere the earth waits for change
that makes the new come forth A bit of wind or peep of sun Fewer clouds to block the rays And grown-up children with expectant eyes Tilt heads upward, and feel for a breeze Inhaling the scent of green and deep soil Somewhere coats are shed Like old skins on snakes and eight legged creatures And Phil the Groundhog wonders if he is really real Part of the world And not a ghost While in the air the feathered travelers fly No longer nostalgic but relieved To be home Somewhere the earth strains to give birth And then dons the coat of colors that inspires poetry And lifts hearts and minds toward love I blink in the sunlight and sigh with relief Ready to feel warm sand in my toes And cool water on my legs I smile at new life around me © 2011 Natasha Austin |
