The Sky

The Sky

A Poem by Natasha Austin

Small wisps of cloud before a thin rainbow
Take me back to the days when I was free
For rainbows meant promises kept
And past the clouds was treasure

As sweet as those days were in my eyes
I couldn't forget the nights of pain and sadness
That came later once the ring was on
After that I waited til the sun rose to look for hope
To find the clearest bluest day again
To capture a piece for myself
But found there were too many dark clouds in the way

With each lie and secret the clouds grew bigger
While with every shout and insult the sky was blocked out
The blue broken into pieces like some sort of sky puzzle
Only the edges don't fit
And I still strained to see the sunlight

I loved you then and I love you now
But too many clouds have made me blind
And made the day too dim
Take my hand and show me I am treasured
Help me believe in us again
The sun will rise and we can enjoy the view as one
Mend the pieces into art
