Disappointment

Disappointment

A Poem by Natasha Austin

Waiting at the window

She keeps glancing, watching

Hoping against hope that soon he will arrive

Car all shiny and a new doll in his hand

Smiling at her grin beamed at him

And then bending down for hugs and kisses

Sitting by the phone with a hand ready and tensed

Distracted and seeing nothing

But the silent ringer that is dead set to tease

Worry lines on one so small

Lips sore from biting

Lying on princess covered sheets

Heart hammering

And eyes wet

In the dark where no one sees

Except the angel they say is watching

She waits one more night wishing

Scolding herself for once again trusting

And projecting love to the man she calls daddy
