Falling

Falling

A Poem by Deepshikha
"

Parody of Poe's "The Raven".

"

Where the flowers fade fairer, upon a hill there looms a tower of terror,

And there I live, ‘round a hole in the middle, and where I labor in vain,

But now when I work I hear a tinkle " upon my feet I feel a sprinkle,

So I walk to the center, to where the water well ebbs and wanes;

Laughing I touch the water, and I throw out light, my only bane --

Curious, I call my name.

Suddenly I feel Earth falling, and I hear my voice drawling,

As I fall, faster, farther; and I fear for my manic brain,

I see sparks fly off my chest, and they sparkle above, mocking in jest;

The tower I cannot discern, and the Darkness knows how I worry in vain,

So I am flipped over, flying head first, down into a depth of disdain --

Dazed, I call my name.

Now I see nothing, no walls surround me -- I am as forsaken can be,

But my mind cannot halt the shadows, and they come crawling to reign;

The Devils start their laughing; against the flames my heart is chaffing,

And the ghouls and goblins grasp for me going upon this ghastly lane --

And the ghouls and goblins grasp as I spin as if a beaten weather vane --

Shrieking, I call my name.

Before my eyes close, I see a light, and it flickers so far from sight,

My hands grasp towards it as the ghouls dissipate away, though in vain,

For the light dances too far away, and its scorn causes my dismay,

The light and I pass and for a moment I bask in its warm rain

For a moment I can feel myself, for a moment I am sane --

Grinning, I call my name.

As quickly I felt bliss, it passes, and sanity leaves me a final kiss,

And I am falling, falling, falling down an endless, frigid lane;

My heart flutters, my heart mutters for one last, lonely stutter,

As the Demons take my hands, I am forevermore insane,

I am falling, falling, falling down an endless, frigid lane --

Nevermore, I call my name.
