After breakfast I wasted no time in running outside. Every morning I would run around the village a few times. It helped me lose some of my anger towards life-and Neji. Although the sun was shining, there was a cool breeze that whipped everywhere.
I walked to the village gates to start my five laps around. And who should be there but Rock Lee?
"Aika-chan!" he called as soon as I came within ear shot.
"Hullo, Lee," I said, almost dully. Although Lee was pretty much my best friend, I was still pretty reserved around him. If you think of reserved as having cat fights while running laps and having ramen eating contests with him and Naruto.
"Are you ready to run?" he asked, exited. Yes, exited.
I smiled Lee could always improve my mood with his happy-go-luckiness.
"Oh yeah!" I yelled back.
And we ran.
Lee and I ran around the village almost twenty times, laughing, cracking jokes, and talking.
By the time we were done, it was around 10-0-clock and more and more people were outside.
"Want some ramen?" I asked, panting under the gates.
"Sure!" Lee exclaimed, not tired at all. "Race you there?"
I looked at him. "Are you kidding me?"
Lee's grin fell a bit.
Did I really sound that angry? "Dude, I can barely breathe!"
His grin jumped right back on. "Well," he thought for a moment. "Let's power walk!"
I rolled my eyes. "Sure!"
We actually ended up sprinting to the ramen bar close to Naruto's house. So by the time we got there, I was pooped.
"You alright?" called Naruto, eying me-panting like a fool-and Lee-grinning like a fool.
"Yeah," I called.
The two of us sat down next to Naruto.
"Don't worry," Naruto said. "I haven't ordered anything yet."
"Why?" I asked. That was strange. Even for Naruto.
"Because," he paused, possibly for dramatic effect. "We're going to have a ramen eating contest!"
"Alright!" Lee shouted. "Loser has to run fifty times around the village!"
"50 laps?" I exclaimed. "Lee, that's like walking to this bar to Naruto's flat for you!"
"Alright," he said, happy that I brought that 'drastically life changing" point up. "Naruto if you lose, you must do 50 laps; Aika you must do 100 laps if you lose; and if I lose I must to 500 laps!"
"Hey!" Naruto cried out. "Why do I get less than, than her?"
"You say 'her' like it's a bad thing," I said to him, laughing.
Lee rolled his eyes. "Alright Naruto, if you lose, you must do 200 laps around the village!"
"Alright!" Naruto shouted, somewhat giddy. Then he turned to me. "Believe it!" he shouted in my ear.
I laughed and rolled my eyes. "Bowls of ramen for us," I said to the guy behind the counter. "And keep them coming!"
By 10:30, Lee was on his fifth bowl, Naruto on his seventh, and I only on my ninth.
Lee was the first to say, "no more." I shook my head and kept on eating. So shameful for the mighty Lee. Naruto, however, persisted until his eighth bowl, and then he said, "I think I'm going to implode."
But I kept going till my twelfth bowl, while Naruto and Lee watched in wonder.
"How can you-, I mean, where does-, I mean, WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU?" Naruto shouted, gaping at the twelve ramen bowls in front of me.
I grinned. "Only me!" I then turned to Lee.
He laughed. "500 laps, HERE I COME!"
After giving the two of us a small bow, he ran off yelling, "I must make Gai-sensei proud!"
Naruto chuckled and turned to me. "So how can you eat that much?"
I laughed as we split the tab and walked towards Naruto's flat. "I don't know. But running with Lee could make anyone hungry. I don't think I'll eat till dinner tonight."
"Are you kidding?" Naruto shouted. "I don't think I'll eat till tomorrow!"
"Well," I shouted back, "I am a Hyuga!"
We cracked up and I bade Naruto good-bye.
