Odd CoincidencesA Chapter by DeepshikhaMaybe I will get to revising...someday.“Dad.” I cried. He hugged me and said, “Jaya! My only girl.” “Dad, you have Sakie (Sakan) for that.” “I know, but he-I mean she is too much of a girl.” We both laughed and came into the kitchen where mom was putting all the dirty dishes near the water pump outside. Dad snook up behind her and said “Boo!” Mom jumped about a mile and turned around, smacked Dad, game him a big hug and said, “Welcome back Rahan.” She then sat him down and forced him to eat breakfast. Jeren ran into the kitchen and said, “I'm going to Aron's place. We have to find partners for the Le'kar thinggy.” “Well I'm coming with you.” I said. “Are you crazy?” “No, and Aron already has a parter.” “You're kidding.” “Nope.” “Who is it? Knowing Aron it has to be someone like Alyse.” “Nope.” “Then who is it?” “Take me and I'll tell you.” “But-” “Take me. Otherwise I'll just follow you.” “Oh, alright.” Jer (Jeren) led me through the marketplace, past the Royal Garden, past Araba Narkar's place, and into a forest path. “No this is just a back way. He has a lot of land you know.” “Oh.” A lot of land? Alyse never mentioned that though she claimed to know everything about Aron. We kept on walking and soon reached a large field with flowers everywhere. Jer led me onto a dirt road and after a couple minutes we came to a huge mansion. “Oh my gosh.” I breathed. Jer took me to what looked like the back door and knocked on the door. A maid answered it and led us to a huge sitting room. She told us that “Sir Aron will be with you shortly,” and brought us water. “Sir Aron?” I said. “Yes, Jay, SIR Aron.” “This is like Narkar being called Lady Narkar.” “Who calls her that?” “Her doorman.” “Her doorman?” he laughed. “Does she know what that door man does?” “What,” I struggled to keep my face straight. “Does her door man do?” “He walks around with a picture of Narkar pasted to his chest.” “Are you serious?” “Yeah. He actually showed me and Aron.” Jer and me both cracked up as Aron came into the room. “What's so funny?” he asked us. “Narkar's doorman.” I said simply. “Remember when he showed us the picture?” Jer asked. “Gosh, that one?” Aron said exasperated. “That left me horribly scarred.” “Must've been scary. Wish I was there.” “Trust me Jay, if you'd been you'd been scared. That doorman's chest was like, attack of the gray curly hair.” “Ewww.” I said in disgust. “By the way, don't people say 'Hi' anymore?” “Okay, Princess. Hello madam. How art thou? Thy thinks thou is stellar? No?” Aron said doing a low bow. “Very funny.” I said raising my eyebrows. “Oh Aron,” Jer said. “My creepy little sister said something about you have a parter for the Le'kar already.” “And she's right.” Aron said. “Dude, you said that we were gonna get partners together.” “So?” “Well who is it?” “She's right in front of you.” “I don't see anyone.” “Hello?” I said standing in front of Jer. “Are you blind?” “You? Aron, you're taking my sister to think Le'kar?' “Yeah? What so wrong with that?” “Hello? She's my friggin' sister!” “So?” “It's not like she's my sister.” “Buuuutttt,” I said. “We do have reason to believe that I'm not even related to you.” “What?” “Jaya,” said Aron. “I don't think it's the right time to tell him this.” “Let me finish.” I said and I told him all that happened yesterday. “You're kidding.” stammered Jer when I was done. “This is a joke. Right?” “Jaya, can I have a word with you?” asked Aron. “Why?” “Oh, you know, about the Le'kar? “What the-” I said with utter confusion as Aron dragged me out of the room and into the dining room. (Which was also huge.) “Jaya, why did you tell him that?” “Why? At least he, your best friend, should know right?” “But you have no relation with him.” “He's my BROTHER.” “So?” “He's my closest one.” “Then he does have a right to know.” “Yay! You got it.” I said rolling my eyes. “But Jaya, do you think all this is just plain weird? I mean, that food could have been drugged and we were both hallucinating.” “Aron, as much as I'd love not to say this, but that food? It was drugged.” “What?” “It was drugged with a potion to make us pass out. I think that all that happened yesterday was all in Fate.” “All in what?” “In Fate.” “Jaya, where are you getting these, these ideas from?” “They're not ideas, they're, they're, I don't know!!!” “You do know I can here you out there, and what is this about Fate?” asked Jer as he came into the room. “I don't know.” I said. “That's the point, Jaya!” Aron exclaimed. “You don't know anything about what's happening and yet you still think that all these, these ideas are right!” “Oh, I'm wrong then, am I?” I said with a sneer. “What about you? You who used to ignore me for 16 flia even though you were my brother's best friend and then suddenly you tell me I look beautiful, ask me to a Le'kar, and tell me you love me!” “What?” exclaimed Jer. “Aron that's sick!” Aron gave Jer the eye and turned to me. “Jaya, listen, yesterday it was like I was someone else, and most of yesterday, except whatever happened at Narkar's, is like super fuzzy.” “That's it!” I exclaimed. “That's how I feel. Like I'm someone else.” “Jaya and Aron, I know that you two are caught in a ginourmous mess, but you know that crazy dude in the marketplace?” “The one that tried to sell me a book about the whereabouts of the Ra'ain Tiara?” I asked. “That's the one. Well, he tried to sell me a book called A'raya-The Goddess Fate.” © 2008 Deepshikha |
