My Sun

A poem about how someone feels when they leave the one they love. (Based on Edward Cullen's line in New Moon when he returns.)

My Sun

 

My life was once an empty night,

A few stars my reasons for living,

When along came you, a meteor,

So strong, so lovely, so giving.

 

You were my sun,

You turned my nights into days.

You overpowered my stars,

And set my eyes ablaze.

 

Then, when I left,

I left my sun and my light.

But the fire in my eyes

Had affected my sight.

 

The stars that were once my reason,

Were impossible to see,

Thanks to the blindness,

You had inflicted on me.

 

I was slowly loosing will,

Loosing sanity and structure.

My heart, as though it’d stopped beating,

Felt dangerously close to rupture.

 

I knew that it was only a matter of time,

Before my greed forced me to return.

I couldn’t live without my sun.

I touched the fire and still had the burn.

 

I’d hoped you’d take me back,

I was prepared to plead and beg,

But I’d also hoped you’d moved on,

To another boy instead.

 

You see, although I want you,

Although without you I am blind,

I still simply want you to be happy,

And with who, well, I don’t really mind.

 

But to know you’d felt the same way,

To know I’d tortured you too,

Although my selfishness wanted it,

I couldn’t bear to think I was true.

 

Because, my dear, although it’s hard

To breathe when you’re not around,

I could have managed to rest in peace,

If I knew you were safe and sound.
