A piece of Silver StrandA Story by NMHWriting Prompt- Write about a character wearing an outfit made of flowers.
She ran her delicate fingers through the tall blades of grass as they sprung up along her path. Her way was illuminated by only the light that stretched out from the full moon, as if it was reaching for only her. Her silver hair glittered as it caught the light between the trees as she entered a clearing. This place had been only an empty field hours ago, but now it was a sprouting meadow. This was her own creation, her energy pulsed from within her, needing to create, to breathe life into this barren space.
The energy continued to expand and she could feel the flowers begin to spout beneath her feet. They bloomed in the pale moon light, beautiful petals reached up to her. She watched in both curiosity and awe as they grew and snaked around her body blanketing her and caressing her like a silk gown made only for her. She held out her hand as her palm began to itch with new life. A single moth emerged, bright and luminous. She favored moths to butterflies, enjoying the way they always strove for the light. She watched as it took flight, wings flapping fluidly through the translucent night. Her concentration on the life emerging from her was interrupted by the sounds of their heavy boots crushing her new creations as they approached her from behind. Their voices invaded her mind, calling her name, calling to her, making her remember why her walls crumbled. She had been holding back her energy, her life force, trying not to scare them. They couldn’t handle what she was and now that they knew they meant to hurt her. Maybe not physically hurt her, how could they? But they could bruise her heart further, shatter it into a thousand microscopic pieces. At least he could. He was the one. All she did to help them, to help him. She allowed herself to care, to love. She desperately wanted him to understand, to accept what she was, but he ruined all of that with his hate filled words. She tried for days to hold back the hurt, to keep the anger at bay, but that only caused all of the energy, all this power to grow. Her powers were expanding rapidly, greater than she ever imagined, but she could feel the imbalance within her. She didn’t want to care about any of that. All she wanted to do now was make him hurt. © 2014 NMH |
