One Last Play

One Last Play

A Poem by Nathanael Lockeford
"

The last play of the last game I'll ever play and this is it.

"
Have you ever felt it?
The adrenaline coursing through your veins
Heart racing
Sweat pouring
Eyes locked with the enemy across from you

Football

Wait for the whistle
Now the snap
Surge forward
Contact

The sound of pads smacking against each other
The shouts of your brothers standing at your back
The cheers of the crowd pouring over you

Fight for position
Get to the outside
Eye on the ball
Chase down the running back

Crash!

Knowing you got him
Seeing the ground come up at you
Feeling the pressure of those joining you
Hearing the grunt as he loses all air and smashes into the ground

He's Down

We've won!
