A Chapter by carla

We have been shun from society and labeled as animals because of what we look like. Many of us are being used as lab rats. Other as circus freaks. And yet others have been lucky enough to be bought and owned by the wealthy as exotic pets. But then there are the rest of us who wonder around on our own looking for a way to live. then getting picked up by some stranger only to be used as human sexual play toys, s***s, hoes, whatever you want to call us.

"Phoenix you have a client." that is my name and prostitution is my profession.

I walked to a room in the hall down stairs where we were to ‘serve’ the clients. I was given the usual room, number 159. Walking in I saw he was one of the frequenters of this place. He was drunk and still drinking. Standing at the door, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a pill. There was much I could endure but this experience was not one of them. If there was one thing I was thankful for was that these humans could make such a drug to take one’s soul out of its body.

Taking a cup of whiskey, I downed the pill and got ready for what was to come. The room was dark and there was nothing in here but a mat for one purpose. Walking over to the mat I lay down and allowed for this creature to touch me. Many emotions and sensations went through me in that moment and none were all too good. This was what I did and there was no changing it.

“Hey phoenix” I looked up from my food at lunch to see Starflake, one of the youngest hybrids in this place. Since she was brought here we all looked after her and took as many of her ‘clients’ as we dared. Father, the owner of this house doesn’t like for us to take the load off of each other.

“Hey come here and sit down. Where have you been?” she skipped over, set her plate of food down and sat down.

“I was out looking at the town. It’s always so beautiful this time of year.” I smiled at her and listened as she went on about how magical the winter was. It was December and close to Christmas so the whole town was covered in snow and colored light. I had to agree with her, that the town was beautiful this time of year.

“What do you want for Christmas this year?” she had always gotten everyone in the house something for Christmas and we in turn had done the same for her. We were all a family here and Christmas was one of the times we were free from obligations.

“It doesn’t matter really. What about you? What do you want?” this question was always the one that got her talking. She went on about all the things that she had seen in the whole year and couldn’t decide which one she wanted more. I could tell all the others were paying close attention as well to see what they could get her.

“Ok finish your food is going to get cold.” I would go out tonight and get her a gift with the money I have been saving. She was only 16 so she still had many things to hope for. So Christmas was the one time of year we could give her hope where we had already lost ours.

“Starflake is asleep if you’re going to go you better go now.” It was minx one of the oldest in the house. She was like a mother to us all and we all loved her dearly.

“Yes thank you I should be back quickly” with that I turned and headed out into the night. The stores were still open and many people were still out and about as well. It was fairly hard to hide myself now days. Since I was already of age all of me was done growing. I had to hide my tail in my jeans and let me tell you it was not comfortable. My ears were hidden under my scarf but kept threatening to pop out.

People still looked at me strangely and I guess it wouldn’t have made a difference if I did hide my extra parts. They all knew of the ones in the sin house. But I didn’t care I wouldn’t be hiding what makes me unique but it was house rules.

Looking away from the crowd, I looked at the windows of the stores. Some toys stores were tempting but she wasn’t in the age for toys anymore. At the age of sixteen, I knew she wanted something more. Sighing, I walked ahead to a nearby clothing shop. I remember her talking about a beautiful dress she saw in the window.

Coming around the corner, I saw it. The dress was a magnificent crystal blue with rime stones that glittered in the lights of the store. I knew in that moment what I was going to buy Starflake. Walking into the store I saw many other beautiful clothes that I would have loved to buy and wear but this was not about me but about Starflake.

“Excuse me” I had walked up to the clerk to know the price of the dress.

“Yes how may I help you?” he seemed like a nice old man and he had a caring smile. Smiling at him, I pointed at the dress in the window. He nodded and walked over to it. Taking it down, he handed it to me for inspection. The silk was smooth and soft against my hands and right then I didn’t care the price, I would buy it.

“I’ll take it and if you could wrap it I would be most thankful.” I told him and he smile again and nodded. Taking the dress again he walked to a back room. Mean while I decided to look around some more and maybe next month the prices would be low enough for me to buy what I wanted.

“Excuse me miss but what is your name?” I was looking at a shirt when an elderly man came up to me.

“Phoenix” I answered politely and looked him over in his suit and tie. He smiled and walked away without another word.

“Here you are miss” the clerk handed me a silver bundle and I smiled and pulled out my wallet.

“Thank you how much will it be?” he smiled and pointed to the register.

“Come I will ring you up” as I followed him to the register I felt someone was watching me and it made my hair stand on end. Looking around I saw hardly anyone was in the store and those who were were too busy to even look up.

After paying, I quickly walked out of the store and down the sidewalk towards the house. Yet I still felt that presence that was following me. Instinct told me to turn around and take down whoever or whatever was following me. Then my common sense took control and told me to keep walking and to find safety in the house.

Quickly, once at the house, I rushed in and closed the door. Once minx saw my face she became worried and rushed to me.

“What’s wrong child?” I slowed my breathing and shook my head.

“Don’t worry it was probably nothing. I just felt like someone was following Me.” she nodded and seemed to understand.

“Well go on up to bed and I will put Starflake’s gift in the attic” I nodded and handed the wrapped dress to her. In my room, which I shared with a couple of other girls, I quickly changed and lay in bed. A feeling, like foreseeing, kept me up that night.

So far so good. A little more description on what the Hybrids look like would be nice, but so far everything's going smoothly. Good written work, albeit I can't see you writing accurately on the life of a prostitute. Most girls usually shy away from such writing (which is what I assume you'll be doing as well).

A very strong beginning to the story. You create likeable characters and a very interesting story. I will read the next chapter.

An interesting chapter, if a bit draggy. It does, however hook the reader and I will probably keep reading. The one thing that I didn;t like was in the first section where is says 'Many emotions and sensations went through me in that moment and none were all too good' because I thought it would have been better if you put something like the character feeling numb - I don't really know how to explain it. I only think that it shouldn't say 'many emotions' because someone who is shunned from society and forced to pleasure men shouldn't really have 'many emotions', but it is good anyway, it still fits in with what you have written. Maybe as the character develops I will change my mind about the 'many emotions' thing.
Thanks,

Ah, a good start!

Hmm, really interesting. You need to work on the dialog, though. Picture an actual conversation, complete with pauses, motions, expressions, and write that. Also, check over your grammar, or if this is just a rough draft simply keep grammar in mind. More description would be nice, especially on your actual character. But make sure you establish the six senses in every scene, or at least one of them! It really adds to the story, believe me. But overall, this is a daring topic to take on, so congratulations for setting to work on it. (:
