A Chapter by carla

It was early in the morning with slits of sunlight cutting through the green leaves, a sigh of spring. Neftali put her hand to block the light from her eyes and looked around at the camp site. She got up and saw that abidan was gone.

“Abidan?” she sat up rubbing her, still having blurred vision from sleeping.

“Yes, sir Aron?” abidan appeared from out of the shadows of the trees with their canteens full of water.

“Sir?” she asked still lulled by sleep but still able to catch that.

“I mean lady” he blushed and looked down.

She just sighed and let it go.

Neftali stared at the canteens; he must have gotten the fresh water from somewhere “where did you find water, Abidan?”  She walked closer to him.

“Just a little ways from here” He pointed in the direction he had come from “’bout a couple of minute’s walk.” Neftali was already walking in that direction but turned back to abidan.

“Don’t wonder off I’ll be right back” she then ran for the sweet refreshing refuge of the water.

She reached a large lake. It shimmered in the morning light like a crystal mirror, reflecting the sky’s image almost perfectly. Colors washed over and around the lake as if an artist had grabbed a rainbow and used its colors. Birds sang there morning songs filling the air with music as if complimenting the lake on its beauty. The wind whispered to the trees a secret that made their leaves shake and some fall and land in the lake, causing ripples that blurred the sky’s reflection.

She slowly untied her belt, with her sword attached and placed it on a nearby rock, trying not to disturb the scene’s beauty, she, just as slowly, removed her clothes and waded into the water. A shocking cold sting went through her body like lightning but went away just as fast as it had come, as the familiar calming of the water set her at ease. The water cradled her back and forth like a mother lulling their baby to sleep. She did this every morning in Abrash, and when she had her nightmares. It calmed her down and put her at ease.

Why this helped her she didn’t know she only knew she needed moments like this. Just then she heard a sound coming from the trees. ‘Again’ she thought to herself. She turned expecting to find a stranger, who she would knockout on the spot, instead she saw Abidan staring wide eyed at her. She gasped and tried to cover herself, but why? She had never minded this kind of thing before. Conall had seen her naked but why was she so embarrassed with Abidan? This was something new. Abidan quickly turned around.

“I… I’m sorry. I wanted to know what was taking you so long. So I came looking for you.”

“No worries” She had to get dressed but her clothes where on the rock in front of him. What was she going to do? This should not have been a problem. Then she noticed in the direction Abidan was looking, her clothes. He was thinking the exact same thing she was. Or something else, she didn’t want to think of what might be going though his mind right now. Instead she was thinking of what she would do.

Abidan gathered all his courage and turned around turning a bright red when he took her fully in. then their eyes met and he was too embarrassed and looked down on at the ground. “Would you like me to leave? Sir…I mean mam” his blush brightened. What was neftali going to do send him away? But that was it; she didn’t want him to go away. What was happening to her? She had never felt this way, ever.

Neftali had turned completely blood red. She could not take this anymore. She had to get out. NOW!

“Don’t move” She walked out of the water as calm as she could manage. Abidan’s eyes went even wider. “Keep you head down please” it was more to keep him from seeing that she was blushing than anything.

“We should probably get going” she said after she finished dressing and was fastening her belt on. The she thought of something, if anyone found out of this she would never live it down especially Ithai. She shuddered at the thought of him finding out.” You are never to mention what you’ve seen to anyone” when she was done she turned around to face him and said “do you understand?” he didn’t answer just slowly turned not knowing if she was still naked or not she glared at him and walked closer to him “I said do you understand?”

Abidan nodded furiously.

“Good, now let’s get back to camp and head out.” She said turning and walking into the cool shadows of the trees looking back at Abidan and the beautiful lake, it made him shine, as if he fit in the beauty of this scenery naturally. Some day she would find out what this feeling was that made him seem to have a light emanating from him and caused her to feel warm and safe around him. Until then she would keep this moment of beauty with her and paint it in her mind every time she wanted to remember the most beautiful things in her life.

Beautiful work, I'm left speechless. You heard my criticisms and you answered them. Very, very nice job Carla. I'm very proud.

Favorite line: It shimmered in the morning light like a crystal mirror, reflecting the sky's image almost perfectly. Colors washed over and around the lake as if an artist had grabbed a rainbow and used its colors. Birds sang there morning songs filling the air with music as if complimenting the lake on its beauty. The wind whispered to the trees a secret that made their leaves shake and some fall and land in the lake, causing ripples that blurred the sky's reflection.

That actually brought a smile to my face. You painted the picture just the right amount of imagery and detail bringing me into the water with her. This was excellent, excellent work.
