The Stars and I

The Stars and I

A Poem by Natalie Paskos

They splatter across the sky winking and gazing at each other like two sisters holding tight to a secret, rolling off their tongues only to be halted by the skyline between them and I.

They shine so bright, yet can only be seen by those who pay attention.

Listen to the words they whisper to the wind, to pass to you for your ears and yours alone.

“Look to the sky and cry, shed a tear for me, for I cannot. Sing and dance for I cannot.”

They’ll wink and smile, so sly. A whisper is barely heard, dancing to you through the wind.

“Shed a tear for me, for I cannot. Sing and dance for me, child.”

Shed a tear, break a bone, all the same. One day the stars will cry for you to dance alongside them.

“Shed no more tears and rejoice, sweet child. For you have earned your place among the stars.”

We have finally made our place amongst like minds, so in sync with ours.
