Growing up now days you are taught history in the common core history class, history as in timeline events and culture as far back as human existence at such a previous time could have existed. But have you ever thought, what could have been before that? Take away all religious beliefs that have been shoved down your throat and burned into your mind without any thought of your own. What if before even the first ever belief of human race on this earth there was a generation with all types of technology we haven't discovered or invented yet? Things beyond the unimaginable. What if these people got even farther, technologically, than we have in today's society, millions of trillions upon billions of "years" before us? Then to tie in some religion, as said in the bible: everything and everyone was wiped out because of gods disappointment in his creation (except for those on Noahs ark). What if some type of higher power wiped them out before they became so technologically advanced that they could re invent the world, or even solve the raging curiosity of all religion itself? What if that's where we're headed? Maybe that's why we're running out of resources needed to run our so called "necessities" like cars? Maybe the higher power was afraid that the new batch of humans would go down the same path as the recently cleared ones did, so it decided to give us a limited amount in case we did evolve into a similar world? Then it could just sit back and watch us destroy ourselves. I'm not saying I don't believe there was a simpler time period because obviously like there is a yesterday there is past beyond the iPhone or even refrigerator. Now taking away religious beliefs once again, what if these people weren't wiped out? What if they got so technologically advanced that they could re create a world and make/re form humans? What if their world is so large that it could fit ours inside of it? What if they made us to experiment what they could do to theirs for improvement? What if they made us for entertainment? What if "heaven" is just their creation (us) entering the real world? Now I'm sure we could all go on for hours about what ifs and, what not but from all this thinking its brought me to the conclusion that, no matter what the explanation behind life itself, this time is given to us all. We have this time to find happiness and peace within ourselves. Whether you're in a coma and this all just a dream, or you're in a mental hospital but you see the world and people around you, or you're being moved by a remote control, all you can do is stop asking so many questions and make the best out of the life given to you. Maybe you're in hell right now, maybe you're in heaven, that all depends on the way you look at it.
I wasn’t sure about reading this at first because of my patchy history/ sensitivity with religion but actually I’m really glad I did. The funny irony is that your mention of wiping away one’s on personal religion to objectively see your view… your view pretty much describes my religion ha! Needless to say I got engaged pretty quickly. I believe very heavily in this idea that we exist as the creation of another race, and you’d actually be surprised that (in varying spectrums of vagueness) it’s a pretty common belief, especially among generalized agnostics I’ve spoken to. My only curiosity is why would ‘god’ in this idea wipe out all earth that was not even as technologically advanced as we are, and then let us get to the point we’re at now? Curiosity?
Also, the idea of a god sitting back to watch us destroy ourselves brings out a complex idea; that takes away from the all-loving ‘father’ type sentient god and adds to the idea of it just being another creature from somewhere else. I have my own complex system of beliefs, as I mentioned, revolving around the idea that we are in fact made for entertainment (among other things) and just as humans are individuals, not the collective advanced human race would create a world each. That would be pandemonium, but wouldn’t it make sense for us to each be designated to one person? This would be a polytheistic system where each person has their own god dedicated to watching them succeed or fail. I also agree though that life is what you make it; even in holding this idea there’s only so much time you can spend pondering it without going mad (though you did bring up mental illness and that’s a whole different can of worms). I personally view mental illness as various forms of enlightenment that come too quickly for us to control or understand. Level jumping? Upgrades? Who knows.
Anyways, interesting and thought provoking read. Thanks for posting!
