destiny

destiny

A Poem by Nastia

‘walk away’ she said to him. she felt her heart turn to ice with each time she repeated it. The cold reaching out its claws and shriveling up any human part she had left. She didn’t flinch. She didn’t cry she just stared.

He looked at her, his mind thoughtless. He couldn’t walk away, not away from her.. his heart would shatter but he could see the pain in her eyes, the helplessness and he knew he could do nothing to console her, so with one last look at her he walked away into a distance unknown, leaving her to battle out her demons.

She stood, afraid of what may later come, she stood afraid of her own self. She was alone as she always had been. What had her world become? Nothing, nothing but an empty vessel free for anyone who would care enough to fill it.

She knew nothing of the happiness they all spoke of. She knew nothing of the endless love she had heard about. She knew nothing of life but her own grief. Grief she could not explain. Grief she herself could not understand.

He had been the closest she had gotten to feeling but she knew that all she would bring him was grief and pain. So she chose to make him wallk away so she could keep him safe and so she could keep from feeling the things that scared her, the things that she knew were not for her.

She knew that it wasn’t him that should walk away but her. She should run, run from her fate, run from herself, run from the pain, yet she had told him to walk away as if making her destiny and choice easier.

She turned. Turned to the far distance where her fate lay. She stared down into it. The pit of darkness that her life was and she walked towards it. Each step freezing her from the inside out. Each step making her breathing hard. Each step making her brake down. And yet she walked further into it. This was her fate. She couldn’t run from it. She submitted to it.
