The Fight For Freedom

The Fight For Freedom

A Poem by Nathan Ashlock

Gunshots all around me

I hear the coming feet

I worry every minute for thee

Until I hear the tweet

The tweet signifies victory

Over the ‘lentless fleet

I fought for pride and dignity,

To escape the mighty fleet

They took our land and took our sea

And put us to work on wheat

But now that we have fought to be free

Our land we finally greet

And now at last I have a seat

And enjoy a delicious treat
