Drowning

Drowning

A Poem by Naomi Bloom
"

Song lyrics describing the doomed romance between a mammal and a fish. Can you guess what animated characters I am referring to?

"

Verse:

As I held your hand and closed my eyes

Your fog halo made me realize

Despite its sugar-coated guise

Our love will eventually die

Chorus:

Drowning

Drowning

Whenever I want to kiss you, I drown

Whenever you want to kiss me, you choke

Our love is suffocation

This love is a sad, sad joke

A big, grand yoke

Verse:

Karate chops won’t mend a broken heart

But I always knew it from the start

The land and the sea are too far apart

So how do I pull out Cupid’s dart?

Verse:

Isn’t it a lovely night?

Wish I were a dolphin, a sea turtle, a sprite

Your perfect air-breathing knight

But when my head is dry my lungs grow tight

Bridge:

Acting natural in your glass dome

But when my hands want to roam

I realize that I can never

I can never

I can never

Doomed to handshakes and hugs forever

Verse:

My melancholy yellow heart will survive

I know you will never be my bride

I was a damsel, but at least I was alive

Please find me again on your next dive
