London Olympic Torch

London Olympic Torch

A Story by Naomi Bloom
"

A 79er on the subject of the London 2012 Summer Olympics. A 79er is a flash fiction consisting of 79 words; no more, no less.

"

The torch is lit, an artistic masterpiece, a feat of engineering and invention.  All of the rehearsals, costumes, sets, wires, construction, beautifying of the city, the years of work and planning lead up to this moment.  This bright orange-red glow on each suspenseful face.  Pouring pounds into committee hands until they are heavy, obese.  An ugly face becomes blank, devoid of imperfections like emotion or race.  And what do we gain?  Nothing is left except an empty village.
