My Best Friend

My Best Friend

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

My Best Friend

You were my best friend, my love

For more than forty years

You stood always by my side

Ready to wipe away my tears

You left me on a sunny April day

To face a summer filled with pain

Many dark clouds filled my heart

And my tears fell like rain

God saw and knew your worth

And He took you home that day

Filled your crown with jewels

A pure heart in heaven’s bouquet

Deep in my heart I know

You’ve found your inner peace

But there’s still a big part of me

Missing my beloved puzzle piece

You’re that missing piece

That stills fills up my heart

Though far away you are

We’ll never be apart

My love for you will fly

Across the sands of time

I know we’ll be together

Basking in God’s love sublime

So until the day arrives …when

I walk that final mile to you

God will fill my crown with jewels

One jewel I’ll know is you

So feel the love I send you

On the anniversary of your death

You’ll be forever in my heart dear

Until I take my final breath

What an awesome and very touching write. A beautiful tribute to someone so special to you and my heart goes out to your loss. May you be together in bliss again one day.. I almost didn't review this one but I found it so inspiring that I had to. Very lucky to have had such a close relationship with someone for so long.. and he certainly looked VERY happy in the picture! May he rest in peace.. just your writing shows he was an incredibly loved and lucky man!
