I BelieveA Poem by Nancy Lee ShraderI Believe I believe Jesus viewed the future And He gave His life for me He stretched His arms upon the Cross And died on that famous tree He had my name upon His tongue His lips were cracked and dry He begged for my forgiveness As a tear fell from His eye I’m sure my many sins cut deep Like the crown of thorns upon His head Crimson droplets fell to the ground But that wasn’t all the blood He shed He could have stopped the beating In His eyes my face he saw He bore the pain of my punishment And told His angels to withdraw My many sins must have stung As they nailed His hands and feet He nailed them to the Cross that day All my wickedness and my deceit He lifted His voice to heaven As he gazed upon the crowd Father forgive them; they know not His voice was strong, but not loud He knew I would call His name On the crucifixion day long ago Willingly He paid the price My sins, I can now let go His grace was bestowed upon me I thank my God in heaven each day That my Lord and Savior died in my stead And washed all my sins away
