Standing At The DoorA Poem by Nancy Lee ShraderStanding At The Door Standing at the door Your admittance denied You’ve knocked and knocked But no one asked you inside Do you feel unwanted? Unloved and betrayed Is your heart broken? Without acceptance you’ve craved? How long will you knock? Before you walk away? Do you think if you stay longer? Someone might hear you say I’m out here knocking Please let me come in Will you walk away? And will you ever come again? Will you stand there? Through storm after storm Or will you go to another door Where your welcome is warm This door I speak of Is a door, you well know A door that has It’s chain lock in tow Think my friend Whose door it could be It’s someone you know Much better than me If you think real hard It will come as a shock Who it was That kept the door locked It’s the locked door Of your own heart my friend And your Savior stands Waiting to tend You’re His lost sheep You have wondered astray He will wait forever Forever and a day So open this door And beg Him come in Ask Him to bear And forgive all your sin He will wait there For you as long as you live Will you wait too long and miss The gift He has to give? Your Lord has knocked Will you answer His call? Or will you wait too long And loose it all If you open the door And ask Christ inside? You will attend the wedding feast As His Holy Bride
