Wounded

Wounded

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

WOUNDED

He was wounded for my transgressions

What did I ever to do to be worthy of His love?

Why did God send His Son down here from above?

Did I do something special at all?

Did He know then that He would answer My call?

He was bruised for my iniquities

Was I the reason He came here to die?

Did He know from the start that I would lie?

Why did He leave His Father’s right hand?

Why for my soul in this foreign land?

My chastisement was upon Him

Why did He pay my penalty of sin?

Why in His Kingdom, did He want me in?

Why did He suffer on my behalf that day?

Why did He come; why didn’t He stay?

By His stripes I am healed

Why did He bare His back to the whip?

Was it me He thought of, causing His foot to slip?

Was it for me that He carried His Cross to Calvary’s hill?

Was it for me that He did His Father’s Will?

I like the lost sheep have gone astray

Jesus was born into this life to die for me

He stretched forth His arms upon the tree

He cried out forgive them to His Father above

He offered intercession because of His Love

Jesus suffered and died for me and for you
