Little Red-Haired GirlA Poem by Nancy Lee ShraderLittle Red-Haired Girl
In my third grade classroom She sits by the window close to the door I sit way in the back, so far away As I watch the clock some more I hear the clock a ticking It’s almost time for the bell My feet are square on the floor She has me in her spell As I watch the clock a ticking I see her put her books away She drops her pencil smiling And then glances my way I wonder if she too is wishing To stand beside me in the cafeteria line And then maybe take her seat At the table beside me while we dine Get ready, get set, I’m gone I hurry as the bell starts ringing To get to the door before she leaves Inside my chest my heart’s a singing Little red-haired girl I love you Please take your time today I want you to notice me In that very special way She sure is so pretty Red hair tied up in yellow bows She sparkles like a princess Gold glitter on her cheeks and nose Her dress is made of frilly stuff It swishes when she walks by She makes my heart go pity-pat She’s the apple of my eye She smelled like cotton candy In our reading circle today Teacher caught me day dreaming Smelling her sweet bouquet Oh little red-haired girl walk slowly For my love for you is true I long to give you the brownie That my mommy baked just for you Oh feet move so swiftly My timing is just right today She’s smiling oh so sweetly My heart shouts out Hurray © 2010 Nancy Lee ShraderAuthor's Note
