Haiku Vampires' Feast

Haiku Vampires' Feast

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Haiku Vampires' Feast

Twilight darkness fall

Vampires emerge from the grave

Blood lust fills their veins

Lurk in the shadows

For unsuspecting victims

Lips are dry and parched

Girl is all alone

Vampires swoop from the shadows

In a frenzy kill

Blood lust still unquenched

Eyes searching the night

Nostrils flared smells blood

Parked cars, steamed windows

Couples whisper sweet nothings

Under surveillance

Their screams fill the air

Fangs sink deep into soft flesh

Maximum drainage

Satisfied once more

They race the approaching dawn

Back to their coffins

Undead rest in graves

To be awakened again

When the moon climbs high

Bodies all around

Not a drop of blood is found

Night of Vampire’s feast

Wow this is quite different from other pieces of yours that I have read! You did a wonderful job portraying the vampiric lifestyle. The imagery was great. I could picture the poor girl that was the first victim. An innocent passerby who wondered too far from the flock of humanity, and in an instant becomes a dehydrated, lifeless corpse. The next pair of victims how tragic. Young lovers full of passion whispering of love and dreams cut off in an instant, never to live out the dreams of a future. Reading this makes me want to acquire a stake and search the nearest tomb for these malevolent humanoid parasites lol. As usual you did a marvelous job with this piece! I look forward to reading more of your works in the future! I also just want to say thankyou for your kind remarks in reference to my latest poem.

I like this a lot. My favorite stanza:

Bodies all around
Not a drop of blood is found
Night of Vampire's feast

The rhyme brings it together and ties this macabre piece up nicely. Thanks for sharing.
