War of the Elements

War of the Elements

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

War of the Elements

Flames deep in the earth burning out of control

Volcanic eruption, ready to blow

Molten lava destroys everything in its path

Moving down the mountain in a scorching flow

Ice on the mountain top unable to cool

Melts into a river ready to boil

Volcanic ash clouds descends to the ground

Boiling mud seeps in, scorching the soil

Baseball size hail fall from the sky

Sizzles in the heat when ice and lava collide

Air is thick with a darkened cloud

Falling in flakes, breathing denied

Wind though the mountain is heavy with ash

Burning rock flies though the air

A sudden silence blankets the night

The comparison in your imagery of lava to ice is remarkable. The joining of the two opposite elements at the same time paints quite a picture. Well written.
