Castle

Castle

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Castle in the sands of time

drifing in and out with the tide

From sandy beach to ocean floor

And back again

A child's mind constructs

Imagination galore

Little pails and shovels too

heap up the sand with chubby hands

shaping and forming peaks

Where fairy princesses will stand

A mote is dug around its base

Knights stand guard at the gates

Horsemen of all shapes and size

Circle the castle on every side

Darkness falls and

The tide comes in

Taking it away

So it can begin again

Another child in another time

Will imagine this castle

In his or her own little mind

Castles of sand

Weave around the sea

Praying for a child like me

I really enjoyed this poem. I love the description of the inhabitants of the castle as well as the seemingly endless loop that controls both the sands of the castle as well as the children who construct them. Good Work!
