Bitter

Bitter

A Poem by Nancy H Kelly

I don't know how many months it's been
since
you left me.

I do often wonder
if you'd sped off long before
I asked you to leave.

I sometimes think
that you never harbored
any intentions of staying-
hit and run.

So tonight,
while the whiskey slides
down
my
throat
like fire
I wonder what it would be like
if you were here
instead of the
painfully

stationary

bottle.

You never have half as much
fun
when you know you can't be
left.

I don't know how many months it's been.

I find this absolutely beautiful. The pace is fantastic and really draws the reader into the mood, and the third stanza is down right brilliant! I love the use of hit and run, such soul sorrowing imagery. Fantastic work Nancy, keep it up!
