Deadline

IT takes me a while
to realise
that the soft hissing sound
isn’t my mind, leaking out

        (rats abandoning a sinking ship)

but carbon dioxide
escaping the confines
of an off-brand can of energy.

Like my thoughts
postmodern and overwrought
getting lost in empty pages filled with words.

I really like your style, this is just the kind of poetry I prefer to read. Though the top 10 in the 2nd Contest is just so high, this nearly made it
