something that came to me when I woke up this morning.

CLICK!

''What was that? I could have sworn I heard some thing.''

I am standing in a hallway. I have no idea how I got here. Just standing here. I feel I have been here before. For some reason I feel a compulsion to walk down the hallway.

Every thing is painted white, There are identical doors on each side. The doors have strange hieroglyphics on them. I have no idea what they say.

At the end of the hallway is a door identical as all the rest. It is the same as all the rest, except it only has two hieroglyphics on it.

UP

The door opens onto a landing. There is a set of ascending stairs. I climb the stairs and find a door marked,

REORIENTATION

Opening the door I find a large room. On one side is a low counter with two people behind it. At the far end are rows of shelves full of books. On the end of each are more hieroglyphics. On one wall is a series of shelves with magazines and papers displayed. In the center are tables and chairs.

''Hello, Mister Dean. I see you decided to join us again.''

I hear the click! again and everything goes dark.

''Damn! there it goes again. I thought programing said they had it fixed.''

''I guess we will have to send him back down. This makes the third time. There damn robots are so tempermental.''

CLICK!

''What was that? I could have sworn I heard some thing.''

I am standing in a hallway. I have no idea how I got here. Just standing here. I feel I have been here before. For some reason I feel a compulsion to walk down the hallway.

Ooh, that's good. And you finish it off in a way I don't even feel like I need to hear more.

The general concensus seems to be that it ought to be longer. I believe that it is its very succinctness, coupled with the identical first and last paragraphs, that makes it so effective! Reminiscent of Vonnegut and Bradbury, more than Asimov, I think. But at it's core wholly Frank-ish. Brings to mind the very drone of daily life, how no matter how often we do "it", there "it" is to be done all over again the next day; might this have been your root meaning? Thanks!

Every once in a while I wake up and think to myself "Did I ever see the movie Ground Hog day." I can't remember if I ever did.

I agree with Dean,,, it has an "I Robot" feel to it.. On the verge of consciousness yet stuck in a loop.

A creepy yet fascinating read.. Sometimes as i drive my car and look up to realize I am not where I thought I should be... with a weird feeling that I just blacked out. A little scary.. i really shouldn't be writing stories in my head while driving.

Eh! This reminds me of recurring dreams. I hate them! But not this, I really really enjoyed this. Through, I confess I was disappointed that it was so short for I would dearly have loved to know more, about the room with the hieroglyphics and whether or not they were Aramaic, Ancient Romanian, Mayan or more commonly Egyptian or something else all together. (I really like reading about ancient civilizations, especially Egyptian) Anyway I enjoyed this very much though I would like to know more. Great one Frank!
