A Poem by nadia dmitri
"

Time heals, they say, I say, she say, we say

"
Phoebe,
I swore I told you over and over
How afraid I was to make a mess
To slip while holding a knife
And get your dinner on your shoes

Phoebe,
I feel fragile as a rain drop
Quivering like a pearl of mercury
Picking plosives off my lips
I miss you so much I could cry

Phoebe,
How could you slice me into puzzle pieces
And then walk away with the box
How do I digest this sword
That you placed on my tongue

Phoebe,
I thought this was love
Making up a bed in the wound
Cleaning stained steel with open palms
Spelling your name in my head

P h o e b e,
I've been driving to your side of town
Just to hope you don't show up
And challenge me to forget you
From the backseat

Phoebe,
Your name has lost meaning
Like a word repeated a thousand times
Time heals, they say, I say, she say, we say
Time heals

at first i pictured a small child, then a cat, then a dog. but it really doesn't matter what species this Phoebe is, it is your child. the love you had was obvious here, and with love comes frustration. but even that is something one begins to miss. i had a dog that lived to nineteen, and towards the end she always kept bumping into me almost causing me to fall. now i can walk around the kitchen freely, and how i miss the coat of her fur rubbing against my leg. Patchy, wherever you are, i hope you have found a new home.

A most interesting poem, written in symbolism and metaphor it speaks at a deeper level. Very nicely done.
