A Sultry Blue Moon

A Sultry Blue Moon

A Poem by Nadia Figueroa

I’m the sultry blue moon

that everyone wants to see.

A harmless glimpse or evil stare

before withering away back to their ignorant lives.

Everything about me matters to them,

except me.

I’m laid out on a cold metal table;

Surgery on my soul.

I confused curiosity for caring,

and attention for affection.

I’m just so f*****g interesting.

Aren’t I?

Pat me on the head.

Who’s a good girl?

me.

They can only imagine what it’s like to be me,

but they won’t.

I’m the dream your girl had last night.

She thinks I’m an adventure.

She’ll lead me on and break my heart,

but it doesn’t count,

‘cause I don’t count.

I’m the charity you use

to make yourself feel better,

by telling me you’re okay with my existence

as if that’s some sort of compliment.

I’m a woman,

with anger on my knuckles

and steel in my voice.

I’m a beautiful woman,

who wants to comes home to a beautiful woman

every night to look at the moon.
