Longing For The Sky

Longing For The Sky

A Poem by Nathan Smith

My heart is pounding

But I can’t hear it; I only

Feel it in my soul.

I am on the edge of everything

In my mind. In reality, I stand

At the edge of the concrete steps

Wondering what it would be like

To fly, to soar, to be in the air

Like a beautiful, billowing bird.

My wings would be small

To belie my size, but I would

Fly higher and faster than

Those near me.

I take a deep breath,

Turn around and walk away.

I do not get to fly. I am

Irrevocably and inevitably destined

For a life stuck on the ground.

Good piece- it shows how we desire for something way beyond the limits of reality and can't be free enough to fly in the vast sky that has no boundaries. Liked it :)))
