Two Eagles

Two Eagles

A Poem by Nathan Smith

An eagle takes flight.

Its wings spread wide

Like a mountain range

From one peak to the next.

It soars and soars,

Flying higher and higher.

It does not know where it is

Going; nor does it care.

The flight itself is the point

Of it all.

An eagle takes flight

But it cannot fly.

A wounded wing

Has stranded it on the ground.

And yet

It tries to fly.

It does not know where it is

Going; nor does it care.

The attempt of flight itself is the point

Of it all.
