"Sometimes when I need to meet the me that loves me I can't find her." Savannah BrownA Poem by Michelle ZI read this poem by Savannah Brown called "What Guys Look For in Girls" and I was inspired by a particular line which I made as the title of my poem. Here is what came from that inspiration.Comparison is poison to the ego. Bodies almost skeletal screaming her name. ‘Don’t eat that!’ The subconscious seeps into her ego. ‘Cover the natural existence of your face with artificial substance.. It’ll make you prettier.’ Eyes will pierce her like the tip of a blade. The whispers she'll hear will reach her ears like the sound of a megaphone! "UGLY"! Causing her to remain wearing the everyday masks wreaking of fear. This will continue year after year. It won’t cure her when one kind soul compliments what’s buried underneath Like some ferry god mother allowing her to open the gift box and wear confidence as her everyday outfit. No, She’ll have to dig and dig through the layers, Peal back the skin and muscle until the mist of swarming feelings presents itself, the colors which used to be purple and pink, turned into dark red and black, only then, can the never hallow inside begin to self-medicate., Rising upward like the smoke from a chimney releasing itself into the air being cleansed every inch of the way. In it a pure form of herself will appear, She will shake the hand and the darkness surrounding her will diminish. Only then will the mask of her self loathe be torn away.
