The sunlight creeps in announcing the start of a new day.

A day where she continues to hide, and live life the same way.

Who is she really behind her smile and eyes?

She's shared by two strangers, one who's happy and kind, and by another who sees nothing but confusion and all her failed tries.

She awakens each morning with the same thoughts on her mind.

What is to become of myself? Where is the me I long to find?

Her soul is torn apart by her doubt and fear of trusting.

What has happened to her belief, which was once as simple as counting.

The past has left her beaten, to a point she thinks there is no repair.

So she looks to her shadows to keep her safe and unaware.

Unaware of what pain she might feel.

Yet unaware of what love can do to heal.

She keeps her guard to let no one come near.

Afraid of what's to come and preventing a single tear.

She fears to get close, to let anyone in.

What if she can't take it and just lets them win?

She's afraid to give in, to the ones who betray. 

She can't let them use her, have them pull her away.

You see her smiles and her glee,

But can you see why she wants to be free?

To be free of all her fears, to show her true happiness.

Her heart is crumpled and filled with an eternity of unbearable sadness.

Her laughter and smiles show a girl full of life.

Look past the outside and you'll find her greatest strife.

Her battle within, where it's one against all.

Her biggest fight, not giving in, not letting herself fall.

Her actions tell one story, but her eyes can speak the truth.
