You knew bestA Poem by Hidden SunshineYou thought you knew the best for me telling me what I should and shouldn't do. Saying how when I grew up I'd be great and I'd end up just like you. The problem was you didn't, you didn't know what was best. I acted as if you were right and never did I protest. As time flew by I began to grow while you stopped me from my dreams. Still saying you knew best but not once did you stop to hear my silent screams. You never saw the great in me mistakes were all you could see. I'd try to make you proud but put downs were all I could achieve. I quit trying to get the pat on the back for never did you care to watch me succeed my own way and help me never once did you dare. The moments I achieved my best all you could say was "I've done good". Complimenting yourself for something that you didn't do. You said education was everything, but when chances came you never let me go. I was in a prison with you having complete control. You gave me chances at times to let education take me down the road, but still you kept tight control on everything that I might take a hold. Our words to each other have become more and more rare as we try to avoid a sign of a moment being shared. You pushed me away by not being caressed. I guess this is what comes from "you knew best".
