For Dad.

For Dad.

A Poem by Muhammad

One day I hope you can tell God,
"You gave the son I wished for me."
I just hope deep down you know,
you're the only sun I wish to be.

That one night when I was 9,
I wonder if you remember
It was bad enough if was cold,
If I can recall some time in December

You got that bad call from school,
my teacher was worried about my grades
Deep down I knew I could have done better,
because all your life you've given an "A"

Countless nights I'd peek through my door,
funny how you thought I was asleep
It was a rare time of the day,
the only time you showed you're weak

You would sit down on the living room sofa,
planting your face in your hands
Wondering how much more of God's testing,
you could possibly withstand.

Just remember no man can degrade your love,
or undermine your efforts
Because you stood your troop up on its feet,
even though you were under pressure

It was because of this I kept my head up,
I've always wanted you to be proud of me
You promised your friends I'll be a protégé,
but I'm trying to be a prodigy.

I appreciated anyone who even read this poem, really.

It's funny because in no way had I intended this to actually win in this contest..it was a piece which was the result of a rough night, and I just wanted it to be read honestly. Thanks so much and I look forward to sharing more!

I completely agree wish Serah. You've used some fascinating phrases to go with your piece and it creates a wonderful effect. Brrrilliant.

. ah, that's just the most beautiful and the sweetest poem ever written for a dad ... he has to be proud of you ... for knowing him ... for seeing him ... and for wanting to make him so proud ... amazingly ravishing poetry ...
