Chapter 2A Chapter by ZarahChapter 2 [Derek] When Luna had asked me why I act the way I act, my body was instantly filled with dread and sorrow. I didn't show it though. Instead I smiled and said that there was a reason for everything. I closed my book and snuck a glance at Luna. She was writing English notes. I hadn't even realized that we were suppose to be taking notes. I felt something tap on my shoulder breaking me of my thoughts. I turned to my right to see Luna smiling. "Looks like we're partners," She whispered. "For what?" I asked. I definitely should have been paying attention. "Were you not listening?" She asked and I shook my head. We're doing a paper together. And what do you know? It's about our partners! This is going to be exciting!" I looked at the clock anticipating the bell's ringing. I casually jump out of my seat careful not to blow the faceade of cool and collected. I was actually bothered by what Luna told me. I know it was the teacher's assignment but I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I feel a hand grip on to my wrist and it kept me from walking. I turned around expecting to see a thin girl with white hair but saw a short brunette with hazel eyes staring up at me. I kind of hoped that it was the first choice. "Hey Derek," She says. "Tabitha, hey," I said giving her a loopsided grin before averting my gaze. I didn't really want to stand here and talk to her. I have nothing against her but if she hasn't noticed, if anyone hasn't noticed, I don't like to talk much. "Tonight, there's a party at my house. I was wondering if you would come?" She smiles hopefully. I looked her up and down, studying her petite figure. "It's highly unlikely," I said after a moment meeting her gaze. "Oh," She looked down and blushed a bright pink. I really didn't mean to make her feel embarrased because now I feel bad. "Maybe i'll come check it out," I said out of guily. But make no mistake, I was NOT going to that party. I swear I'm so anti-social it's not even funny. "Really?" Her face lights up. " Thanks!" She jumps up and hugs me before skipping off. Wow, I haven't had one of those in awhile. I walk into the cafeteria and spot Ashton sitting with Luna. I internally sighed. It's barely been two weeks and i'm already seeing her everywhere. I stood by my lonesome self and watched the two of them talk. I took a minute to study the both of them; more Luna instead of Ashton. I glanced over Ashton's tall, broad figure and looked at Luna. Like Tabitha, she had a petite figure. Luna's white hair hung just beneath her shoulders and she had a fair complextion. She had a nice body in general and if I had to guess, she was at least 5"7. She had a great smile. Everytime she smiled, her eyes smile with her. Her violet eyes acted as one with her smile. They were welcoming. I found myself smiling at the thought and quickly stopped. I can not believe I just did that. I decided to walk over and sit next to Ashton. At first, no one knew I was coming. Just as I expected, Luna was the first to notice. She grinned and said hey. You'd think it would be one of those soft hi's but with Luna, It had loads of enthusiam included in it. I gave her a small smile. One so small, that you had to be paying attention to actually see it. "I was just tellilng Ashton about our English assignment." Luna spoke with congidence in her voice. "It's going to be major fun." "Not with Mr. Killjoy over here," Ahston smiles nudging me with his elbow. Luna laughed and looked towards me. I averted my gaze before she had the chance to study it. "Oh come on, there's got to be something in there," She defended. "Good luck with that Luna." Ashton replied. Yea, Luna. Good luck. *******
"I guess," I mumbled staring at the wooden desk. "What did you mean when you said there was a reason for everything?" She asked. "Exactly what I said," I answered still looking down. "But why did you say it? There has to be a reason behind that right?" She pleaded, her eyes raking over me. I could feel her gaze on me, willing me to give her a proper answer. "I said it because," I started then stopped short. For a minute I actually considered telling her. "because it's true. Maybe I have my own reasons. That's all." I looked at Luna and seen her press her lips together. I could tell she wanted to say something but she didn't. She was thinking about something and I knew it had to do with me. I just didn't know what. Her eyes studied me as I stood up to leave. Class was over and we were the only ones left, even the teacher was gone. I started to take my first step when I felt her hand reach out for mine. I surpressed the urge to clutch my chest. It felt weird. My blue eyes met her violet ones. "Derek, won't you tell me anything?" Luna begged. "Not unless it's absolutely neccessary," I answered. "Just one thing! C'mon, Derek!" "One thing?" I asked lifting an eyebrow. "Yes," she said reassuringly. "How about knowing that I want to go home." I looked towards the door hinting that I wanted to leave.
"But it's a ridiculous answer," She frowned tugging on my hand urging me to sit down and stay, making my chest begin to hurt again. I cleared my throat. "It's the answer, isn't it?" I asked. I can't believe i'm still her, I had to get out of here. She's holding me captive. Had it been anyone else, I would be on my way already. "But it's the wrong answer." She sighed and I knew she was growing very bored. Hopefully she'll let me go. "It's something thoughm" I mumbled. "Fine," Luna says. I looked into her eyes and I could see she was very unhappy with my reply. She made no attempt to hide her disappointment. I looked towards our hands still tied together then back to Luna. "Luna," I sighed. "Can I go now? Please?" "Sure," She whispered. As she started to let go of my hand, I immediately walked out of this idle classroom. I hopped into my car and drove down to the beach. I parked my silver Honda Accord in the parking lot before hopping out. I walked down to the park next to it and jogged my way to the grassy green field in the far end of it. The was rarely anone in the field so everyday after school i'd come here to relax. I layed on my back closing my eyes enjoying the warmth of the sun on my skin and the feel of the soft green grass underneath me. I never given much thought to anyone, or to anything for that matter. Here I am, my mind redirecting itself towards Luna. Usually, I'd forget about it and think about something else but since I was so relaxed, I didn't bother making an effort. At first, I imagined Luna's beautiful essence. She practically glows no matter what, always so jolly and happy. I almost feel bad for not talking to her and ignoring her half the time. I then think about the frown she wore today. I don't like to see people upset, especially Luna and it makes me feel weird. Come to think of it, I've been feeling plenty weird lately. All of a sudden, I feel bad. Oh how I love the power of guilt. I felt a raidrop prickle down my arm. They started getting harder by the second. I looked up into the dull, gray sky and cursed under my breath. How long had I been here? It was almost nightfall and I needed to get going. I drove down the road in the silence of my car. I seen a familar figure walking down the side of the road and was drenched in water. I squinted my eyes and saw that it was Luna. I sighed internally before pulling up next to her. Why on earth is she walking in this weather? She's going to get sick. And since when do I care about Luna's health? Boy, I must be tired. Yea, that's it, I'm so tired. I rolled down the window as I saw Luna carefully peer into my car. She probably thought I was some random creeper. "Luna, get in! I'll take you home!" I yelled over the roaring rain. She hesitated for a moment before opening the door. "Thank you," She said. "Sorry about all the mess, I didn't have an umbrella with me." "It's fine," I said looking behind me and searching for a towel. "Here, dry up." Luna smiled and took it from me. I'm just glad she's not frowning again. "So where do you live?" I asked as casually as I could. "By the ice cream parlor. I'll show you the way," She answered. "Kay," I felt my phone vibrate and I reached into my pocket with one hand and took it out. I fumpled with it and dropped it on the side of my seat. "I got it," Luna said reaching over to grab it. Her small fingers grazed the side of my thigh as she went to retrieve my fallen item. I shifted in my seat feeling a little awkward and took it from her. "Thanks," I mumbled. "You're welcome." We drove in silence for about fifteen minutes and I could tell Luna was thinking about something again. Not just about anything, about me. "I like to relax under the sun laying in a large field of grass." I said smiling to myself. "What?" Luna asked. "What does that-" "Earlier you said you wanted to know one thing about me and that is something." I interrypted. "And does anyone know that?" She asked curiously. "Not exactly," I answered. "Why?" "No reason," I said glancing at her. "I thought there was a reason for everything." I laughed seeing her smirk as I arrived into the driveway of her house. "Funny," I said looking at her. "Your words, not mine," She smiled softly. "Thank you again, Derek. You're a life saver." "Anytime," I smiled. Luna reached over and handed me the towel I had given her. I took it and felt my fingers gently run over hers. I looked away and tried my hardest not to seem bothered; that weird feeling stirring inside of me again. "You know what I like?" Luna asked stepping out of the car. "What?" I asked. "I like mysteries." © 2011 Zarah |
