THE ROCKING CHAIRA Poem by Barbara LynneTHE ROCKING CHAIR I love to sit and ponder In my rocking chair I don't think I remember When it was not there I remember when you bought it And wrapped it with a bow The memories that chair would hold No way could we ever know We saw it at a country fair And couldn't resist her appeal I know you paid way too much Though you told me, "It was a steal" You knew how much I loved it But to ask, I would never do Your love for me is priceless So you bought it, just like I knew You placed it in the bedroom Where the morning light shines through From that chair is where I told you The date our "little one" was due Every night I would sit and rock Knitting and singing a song You sat at my side and felt a "kick" Then said, "It won't be long" Back and forth I rocked her As her eyes would slowly close You thanked me for our daughter While handing me a rose That chair heard many stories From the children's books I read You'd watch us both fall fast asleep And smiled as I nodded my head As the years went by you helped me Sit in it's lovely cushioned seat You covered me with our blanket Tucked me in from head to feet The years flew by us so quickly The chair was much more than a seat It's where you said you'd always love me With tears, you helped me to eat And as our precious days passed on You would rock the chair for me No longer was I able To be the woman I desired to be Though not a word could I speak I knew you read my tears Each teardrop said, "I love you" And thanked you for all the years And when you found me sleeping In that chair, I rocked my last My smile would help you remember The chair, our love and our past Now the chair sits all alone In our bedroom with the sun shining through But it's filled with our precious memories Of our love and all it once knew

Sometimes it is easier to say how you feel and what you dream in a poem or song than it is face to face. I appreciate all comments and t.. more..Writing
