THE KNOCK AT MY DOOR

THE KNOCK AT MY DOOR

A Poem by Barbara Lynne

THE KNOCK AT MY DOOR

My heart is pounding in my chest

Butterflies throughout me flow

Waiting for that knock at my door

Anticipation fuels my hearts glow

Seems like it has been hours

Since you called saying you were in town

Though it's only been a few minutes

My insides are tossing around

Then I hear a gentle knocking

From my knees and also the door

Slowly I look as it opens

There's that smile I've been waiting for

You drop your luggage quickly

And stare deep within my eyes

Though nothing is said we can hear

The echo of rupturing sighs

The warmth of your arms around me

As you pull me close to your chest

Your kisses soft and so gentle

With you, I've truly been blest

For one moment in time we are captives

Of loves passionate, longing embrace

So much time has been taken from us

Both wiping the tears on each face

We share the night together

Making love and sweet memories

Making the most of each visit

Till you return to those beckoning seas

Each time you leave gets much harder

For me to say goodbye

Knowing that you'll come back to me

Keeps my heart from wanting to cry

So I will wait for you my darling

Till you're in my arms once more

And be grateful for those precious moments

Till I hear that “knock” at my door

I have been writing poems and songs since I was a young girl. Sometimes it is easier to say how you feel and what you dream in a poem or song than it is face to face. I appreciate all comments and t.. more..
