THE LEAFA Poem by Barbara Lynnea little boy and a leafThe Leaf
Of all the beautiful seasons Autumn is my favorite one of all There is something so mysterious About the leaves and how they fall
As the breeze blows through the branches A gentle “shake” begins to appear Then each little leaf detaches itself And breaks free without any fear
Then as if blown by a soft gentle whisper The leaves fall gracefully ever so slow And they tease the tree along the way To their new home down below
And once they have arrived And are settled on the ground A “little one” comes walking by And says “mom, look what I have found”
The child's eyes are wide with excitement For the special leaf he has in his hand Just a leaf to so many other But to him it is might grand
He takes it in his hands so carefully Being mindful so it won't “break” And all th while he is thinking To school this lea I will take
He will bring it in to “show and tell” For all his classmates to see And tell them “this leaf is so special Daddy sent it from heaven just for me”
And as the children all gather around To see the leaf first sight The little boy stands beaming As his proud face shines ever so bright
So next time you see a leaf falling Dancing softly in the air Gave a thought to that little boy And the leaf he took in his care © 2011 Barbara Lynne |
