Winters Wake

Winters Wake

A Poem by mystic

Winters Wake

Waking to a white silken bed

of new fallen glistening snow

The cold wind blows harshly

causing high drifts to grow

Beauty is the snowflakes

of many intricate designs

Catch a few in your hands

analyze the multiple kinds

The wet mist is in the air

settles the snow on the ground

Leaving layers of snow to roll

into snowballs nice and round

Children freed from school

will run in the snow to play

Each one being creative

forms the snow in several ways

Some create a wall of snow

building a fort to hide behind

Then they make a lot of snowballs

and arrange a productive line

Others fall in the soft snow

and make angels quickly appear

Many sizes and shapes to enjoy

some done with special care

The mist falls on the angels

a light thin crust is formed

Securing the design the children made

in place until the sun begins to warm

Snow had many options to use

have fun and be creative as can be

Dip up a handful and add some cream

it's ice cream don't you see

Winter time will soon be gone

and the snow will all melt away

Children store their sleds for the season

and spring will come again to play

Party while you can my friend

the snow will soon be gone again
