MY MOM IS NOT MY MOTHER

(c) Mirta Oliva - From the (fiction) novel
SUBLIME ADOPTION
~  A Tale of Love and Mendacity

(Lovingly dedicated to Kate and Bryant, my Mom and Dad)

What’s the relevance
I used to ask myself
Of having a mom but not a mother
Of being loved by a man who is not my father
And to be revered by a brother who is not my brother?

From child to adult
I had never felt the void...
Only when I was told
It seemed to hurt to know
I was not who I thought I was.

I don’t know who was the saddest
My darling mom or my loving daddy
As they told their only daughter
In their sweet usual manner
They were not her birth mother and father.

If I had always felt the love
Of my sweet mom and dad
Why did it hurt to know
I had been given away
On the day when I was born?

I may have been adopted
My birth parents not always near
But I shall always bless every day of every year
I’ve been able to spend
With a mom and dad so dear.

It no longer seems to matter
My eyes hold no more tears
I’ve forgiven my birth parents
At times afar but yet so near
Their reasons are now clear ….

**** and ****, I hold you dear
Kate and Bryant, you’ve been the best!
I love you all, this is my quest:
My new life I shall revere
For I am here!
